On 15 June, a time capsule was laid at the Mosgorgeotrest building, which is being refurbished by MSU-1 GC. The ceremony was timed to coincide with the 79th anniversary of the institution, founded on 15 June 1944.
“The event was attended by Ilya Zyubin, President of MSU-1 GC; Andrey Belov, First Vice President; Anton Belov, First Deputy Vice President; Yuliana Knyazhevskaya, Chairwoman of the Moscow Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning (Moskomarkhitektura); and Alexander Serov, Mosgorgeotrest Manager. The capsule will be opened on the institution’s 100th anniversary. This project is very important for Moskomarkhitektura, and Yuliana Knyazhevskaya takes an active part in it and monitors its progress,” said Oleg Balakin, acting director of the project at MSU-1 GC.
He explained that every day, between 280 to 330 construction workers work on the site under the supervision of Ivan Yushin, site manager. The project involves a comprehensive range of works, including the reinforcement of steel structures, in-situ concrete works, and laying internal utility systems. Igor Koblyakov is the project manager for steel structures. To date, and in line with updated detailed design documentation, cast-in-place reinforced concrete structures have been built for three new floors. The floor slabs have been fully replaced.
In December 2020, a massive fire broke out in Mosgorgeotrest’s building on Leningradsky Avenue 11, Building 1, covering about 500 m2. The city authorities subsequently decided to restore the building. Built in 1929, the three-storey building was designed by Alexey Yuganov for Mosproekt in the constructivist style. In 1957, the former Mosproekt building was built up to seven storeys and styled after the Soviet neoclassicism for Mosgorgeotrest.
According to Moskomarkhitektura, the current project will preserve the building’s exterior as much as possible. The design envisages additional floors with graphite-coloured metal panel cladding which, together with decorative elements and frames of glazed windows, will give the façade a graphic look, emphasising its graceful classic structure.
The renovated building will measure about 9,900 m2 overall. The contract deadline to complete the restoration project is November 2023.
