MSU-1 GC has conducted a trial opening of a new overpass that forms part of the refurbishment project for the traffic interchange at the intersection of the Moscow Ring Road and Lipetskaya Street, according to the Telegram channel of Sergei Sobyanin, the Moscow Mayor. The overpass is located on the inner side of the Moscow Ring Road and leads to the M4 Don Highway with a slip road into the Moscow Region.

Traffic flows to Moscow and the M4 will be separated, providing much relief to traffic. The interchange will have 18.6 km of roads in total, including one tunnel, seven overpasses, and three pedestrian crossings. We plan to finish the bulk of the works by early 2025,” said the mayor.

According to Roman Masolkin, the project director at MSU-1 GC, the slip road is open for general traffic starting today: “The outbound lanes from Moscow running over Overpass No. 5, completed as part of the interchange refurbishment project, will reach as far as the M4 Don Highway. The total slip road length is more than 1,000 m. The newly opened slip road will significantly improve the traffic situation on the inner side of the Moscow Ring Road within the traffic interchange boundaries. We have also stopped the traffic flows crossing on the inner side of the Moscow Ring Road when entering or exiting the M4 Don Highway.

He said that the traffic interchange project moved to working on the roadbed, building retaining walls, and fireproofing the overpasses. Other works in progress include the construction of cast-in-place concrete entrances to pedestrian crossings and the installation of modular steel trusses for beams.

Once commissioned, the upgraded interchange will increase the throughput capacity of the southern part of the Moscow Ring Road, Lipetskaya Street, and the M4 Don Highway. Vehicles will be able to directly change from the M4 Highway to the inner side of the Moscow Ring Road without crossing other slip roads of the ring road. Moreover, the project will improve the transport connectivity of the Biryulyovo Vostochnoye and Biryulyovo Zapadnoye Districts as well as towns, settlements, and villages of the Moscow Region, including Vidnoye, Sovkhoz Imeni Lenina, Bulatnikovskoye, Izmailovo, and Blizhniye Prudishchi.
