At the Yoshkar-Ola airport, the construction of a new airport complex continues and the reconstruction of the runway and airport infrastructure, which are being carried out by the MSU-1 Group of Companies, has entered an active phase.

Work on the reconstruction of the runway became necessary due to significant wear of existing structural elements caused by many years of airfield coatings and engineering systems operation. Asphalt concrete pavement has many defects and does not meet aviation requirements, which limits the ability to service aircraft, and negatively affects the development of the internal route network and flight safety.

The reconstruction of the airport will increase passenger traffic and expand the route network of flights, which will have a positive effect on the development of the Republic tourism industry.

According to the deputy director of the project Dmitry Dolin, the existing airfield pavement from asphalt concrete is currently being developed using the cold milling method. More than 63 thousand m2 were milled out of 128 thousand m2, it is about 50%.

For effective work on the production of concrete mixtures, a modern concrete plant was relocated from Arkhangelsk to Yoshkar-Ola, since there are no specialized capacities for the production of concrete for airfield coatings in the construction region. Currently, builders have begun preparing foundations for the plant and cement storage silos. The capacity of a cement-concrete plant will make it possible to meet the demand for concrete mixtures at the level of 1000-1500 m3 per day.

«At the same time, measures are being taken to organize the construction headquarters for specialists of the group of companies, production sites for the accumulation of inert materials are being arranged, and materials and equipment are being procured», — said Denis Davydov, director of the airfield construction department of MSU-1 Group.

Completion of work on the assembly and commissioning of the plant is planned in August; the start of work on the construction of the runway lower layer of cement-concrete coating is planned in September - October. The planned volume of lean mix concrete in 2024 will be about 29 thousand m3. In the 4th quarter, construction of water drainage networks, perimeter fencing and treatment facilities are planned.

The commissioning of the facility is scheduled for 2027. However, Oleg Sukhanov, Deputy Vice President for Construction of MSU-1 Group of Companies, is actively working with federal authorities and the state customer on the possibility of transferring funding limits from 2026-2027 and completing the main set of work in 2025. This will synchronize the completion of the reconstruction of coatings and infrastructure with the opening of a new passenger terminal building and the resumption of airport flight activities.

The reconstruction of the facility is being implemented within the framework of the «Development of regional airports and routes» project of the national project «Comprehensive plan for the modernization and expansion of the main infrastructure».
