Ilya Zyubin, President of MSU-1 GC, and Andrey Belov, First Vice President, visited the Moscow Geological Trust (Mosgorgeotrest) building, which is under refurbishment.

To date, the foundations have been reinforced and partially replaced. Floor slabs are also being replaced, and new storeys are being built up. In the larger wing of the building, floor slabs for the new 7th storey have been installed, and the vertical structures of the 8th storey are being reinforced; in the smaller wing, floor slabs for the 8th storey have been installed, and in-situ concrete works are in progress to build vertical structures of the 9th storey.

We are reinforcing the walls with steel strips and installing equipment. We also plan to install internal utilities, translucent structures, and façades. Everything is running on schedule,” said Artem Ryabov, the project director.

In December 2020, a massive fire broke out in Mosgorgeotrest’s building on Leningradsky Avenue 11, Building 1, covering about 500 m2. The city authorities subsequently decided to restore the building. The project was developed by the PRIDE architectural bureau and is supervised by Sergey Kuznetsov, the Chief Architect of Moscow.

Built in 1929, the three-storey building was designed by Alexey Yuganov for Mosproekt in the constructivist style. In 1957, the former Mosproekt building was built up to seven storeys and styled after the Soviet neoclassicism for Mosgorgeotrest.

According to the Moscow Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning (Moskomarkhitektura), the current project will preserve the building’s exterior as much as possible. The building height will increase to nine storeys. The main entrance will be moved slightly to accentuate the façade. В соответствии с принятыми планировочными решениями, надстраиваемые этажи, облицованные металлическими панелями графитового цвета, как элементы декора и рамы витражей, добавят графичности фасаду, подчеркнув его изящную классическую структуру.    The design envisages additional floors with graphite-coloured metal panel cladding which, together with decorative elements and frames of glazed windows, will give the façade a graphic look, emphasising its graceful classic structure.

The renovated building will measure about 9,900 m2 overall. The contract deadline to complete the restoration project is November 2023.
