Cosmos pavilion, VDNH

One of MSU-1 GC’s hallmark projects was the restoration of the Cosmos pavilion at VDNH (designed by architects Viktor Andreyev and Ivan Taranov and known as the Mechanisation pavilion from 1939 to 1959).

The Company faced the momentous task of preserving as much of the external appearance of the 1930s building as possible, in line with the modern requirements for a world-class interactive museum of cosmonautics. MSU-1 GC completed a full range of renovation and restoration works, also adapting this cultural heritage site of federal significance to modern needs, in just 14 months – a highly compressed timeframe.

The project scope encompassed challenging tasks, such as restoring the 70-m high dome and non-standard internal building structures. In addition, the project team rebuilt the unique stucco decoration on the façades and interiors, exposed the preserved breccia and column finishes, carried out the first ever restoration of the sculptures on the building roof, and integrated modern utility systems. The project used advanced Russian materials and technologies.
