This year will see the completion of phase 1 of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter, to be extended to the Moscow–Kazan federal highway. In autumn 2023, the project will be completed in full.
“With the approval of the Ministry of Transport and the Federal Road Agency (Rosavtodor), we decided to extend the Moscow High-Speed Diameter to the road to Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan. We hope that this section will be completed in 2023 as planned, and Muscovites will be able to make use of the new highway to ease and speed up travel to Nizhny Novgorod,” said Sergei Sobyanin.
Alexey Kozlov, First Vice President of MSU-1 GC, informed Sergei Sobyanin that works would be finished in September 2023 as the Mayor visited the construction site.
The project is set to include a retrofit of road infrastructure adjacent to the Moscow High-Speed Diameter, including Kraskovskaya and Pokrovskaya Streets. The area improvements will comprise laying 24.6 ha of lawns as well as planting 772 trees (linden, birch, willow, alder, and rowan) and 7,928 shrubs (viburnum and currant). For cycling enthusiasts, 5.8 km of bicycle paths will be built.
To date, phase 1 of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter is 84% complete. Eight sections of 98.6 km in total have been built (three more sections are still under construction), including 63 elevated highways, one tunnel, three bridges, five overpasses, and 17 pedestrian crossings.
The construction of three sections from the Dmitrovskoye Highway to the Yaroslavskoye Highway and from Lukhmanovskaya Street to the Zeninskoye Highway is in progress. Plans include connecting the road with the Moscow–Nizhny Novgorod–Kazan Highway by building a section with a bridge over the Pekhorka River with a total length of about 25 km, to be opened to vehicle traffic by the end of 2023.
Phase 2 of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter is the section of about 28 km from the Entuziastov Highway to the Varshavskoye Highway.
